Radical Islamism may be rising in Pakistan's cities

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Clashes between militants and security forces at a radical mosque Wednesday offer the latest sign that Islamist extremism may be spreading into Pakistan's cities from remote Taliban strongholds.

Militants from the influential Red Mosque, which loudly backs al-Qaeda, have been openly challenging the U.S.-backed government for months, seeking to impose strict Islamic law in one of Pakistan's most Westernized and tranquil cities. READ MORE
