Emergency Prayer Alert-PAKISTAN

URGENT Prayer Is Needed for the Country of Pakistan

WIN PRAYER ALERT

Three security sites in Lahore, Pakistan were attacked by teams of gunmen on October 15, 2009. Initial reports place the number of deaths at 27 with 30 people injured. Eighty have died so far in October as a result of suicide bombings and 19 more were killed in a Taliban attack on a military headquarters on October 10.FLAG

The attacks on October 15 were a show of power by the militants in Pakistan and effectively shut down the “cultural capital” of the nation.

The violence began at 9 AM as teams of militants began assaulting a law enforcement facility. After about 90 minutes, another attack was launched against a police training school. A third wave of gunmen attacked an elite police commando training center. Authorities said three of the l3 terrorists were females.

October 2009 has been an especially deadly month in Pakistan. On October 10, the Taliban attacked the military headquarters in the town of Rawalpindi, resulting in a standoff that lasted two days and left l9 people dead. Among the casualties were a brigadier and a lieutenant colonel.

“The enemy has started a guerrilla war,” Interior Minister Rehman Malik announced.

On October 9, a suicide bomb killed 53 in a Peshawar marketplace. This was followed by two suicide bombs on October 15 (killing 11) and one on October 16 (killing 16).

“Once more, terrorism has forced its way into the flow of ordinary lives,” one news source reported. “...Suspicions still linger that the spate of attacks could continue indefinitely, putting us all at risk.”

Pakistan is ranked number 13 on the Open Doors World Watch List 2009 of worst persecutors of Christians. The nation appears on day 28 of the WINDOW INTERNATIONAL NETWORK Praying Through the Window 9: Global Terrorism and World Religions prayer calendar.

PRAY FOR:

  • a swift and complete end to the recent outbreak of violence and murder. Pray for God to arise and sovereignly restore peace to this nation. (The Bible, Psalm 68:20)
  • protection for the citizens of Pakistan. Pray for the government to move decisively to counter the Taliban and militant attacks. Pray for the authorities to be given supernatural discernment and wisdom to fight and have these groups dismantled effectively. (The Bible, Isaiah 43:11-13)
  • the terrorists to be soundly defeated and for the surviving terrorist to be brought to justice swiftly. Pray for an immediate end to all terrorist plotting and terrorist attacks. Pray all terrorist weapons will fail if used in future acts of violence. (The Bible, Psalm 92:11)
  • members of terrorist groups to experience godly sorrow that brings repentance and leads to salvation. Pray for all terrorist organizations themselves to fall to pieces, lose power and influence, and be abandoned by all members. (The Bible, II Corinthians 7:10)
  • the Lord to place His hedge of protection around Christians and give them the courage to stand firm in Him in the midst of conflict and persecution. (The Bible, II Timothy 4:17)
  • an immediate end to all persecution of Christian Believers. Pray Believers will be both invisible and invincible to the enemy. (The Bible, II Timothy 4:18)
  • these events to present an opportunity for the Gospel of the Kingdom of God to be proclaimed throughout Pakistan. (The Bible, Matthew 24:14)
  • the Kingdom of God to come in Power and glory to this war-weary land, driving out death and destruction, and introducing righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (The Bible, Romans 14:17)

Foreign Minister Mahmood Qureshi, 21 May 2008

Pakistani lawmakers have denounced Wednesday's raid by foreign troops in Pakistani territory, passing a resolution condemning the operation and vowing to repel similar attacks in the future. VOA's Barry Newhouse reports from Islamabad that the Pakistani military warned such operations could provoke a backlash in the country's volatile tribal regions.

Foreign Minister Mahmood Qureshi said the government had already summoned the U.S. ambassador to complain.

He said the operation was shameful because it violated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a U.S. ally in the war against terrorism.

Details about the raid remain unclear, including who was behind it. Western news agencies have reported that U.S. military sources claim American troops based in Afghanistan carried out the assault on a village less than two kilometers from the Afghan border. The number of people reported killed varied from seven to 20 and Pakistani officials said nearly all of them were civilians.

Pakistan's military has worked with U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan for several years to establish guidelines governing military action along their shared border.
